Proceedings:

Meeting called to order at 11:10 a.m. by President, Janet Paulsen.


July’s meeting minutes were amended and approved.


President’s Report:

  • Janet reminded board members to please check GSTEF website frequently to keep up to date on the many events and activities.
  • Janet distributed new sponsorship flyers to the Board.  Sponsorships are available for $1000.  Sponsors get a courtside banner.
  • Janet brought Board up to date on new Adaptive Tennis program that will be taking place at Greenspring starting September 19th from 1:00 - 2:00.  The program will be paid for by funds from GSTEF and will be offered free of charge to interested families.  Volunteers are needed to help facilitate the kids on court in many capacities.
  • Janet stressed the quality of the training these kids receive from the well-trained staff.  The new Saturday program is designed to complement the intensive training GSTEF offers to its Special Olympians.  It is hoped that these kids will eventually take part in the Special Olympics.
  • Janet discussed the format of the GSTEF Fundraiser scheduled for October 16-18th.  The fundraiser will be a 24-team tournament sanctioned by the USTA.  Event kick off will be a a cocktail party on Friday, October 16th at 700 p.m.  Auction items will be available for attendees to peruse.    Cost will be $10 to attend.  Attendees will be able to watch the GSTEF Special Olympics team practice during the reception.
  • Christine brought up the need to establish dates and times for Adaptive Tennis partnership opportunity with the Autism Society of Maryland.
  • Dates of November 8th (kids 6-11) and 15th (12-18) from noon to 1:00 for ten kids.  Courts are reserved.
  • Food will be offered before the event either set up near the Jabi Tibo Cafe or in one of the back rooms.  In keeping with stressing the importance of a healthy lifestyle, we will provide takeaway water bottles that can be labeled with the child’s name, carrots, celery and ranch dip and assorted fruit for a snack.
  • Christine will work with Stacey Israel at the Autism Society to finalize details and report to Janet Paulsen.
